My opinion: yes a card has been played, no we don't know which one 
yet. In that sense it has not been designated, in anothe sense, the 
designation has simply not been completed.

I don't allow him to nominate a non-existant card, as I won't believe 
(yes' that's mind-reading) that he intended this at the start.
