Seriously. Except that they usually pronounce it with a rather closed "oeu" 
sound, like their "ö", while the French use a more open sound, not unlike 
the hesitating "er". The contrary is true of "carreau" : closed "o" in 
French, like in "close", open "o" in Dutch, like in "hop".
