I missed a key element of the original case in the above fable. The old
lady might have prevented the mugger from robbing her by sticking her
hat-pin into his eye. She didn't. Therefore, the court ruled that she
aided and abetted her own mugging.
Naive players like me feel that insult is added to injury when the the
traumatized victim's behaviour is criticised as "wild, gambling" or
whatever.
