+=+ My memory is that the EBU would have liked to 
ban or restrict the convention but did not ever discuss
which. They decided the use had gone too far to try 
any such move. That, at any rate, is how the matter 
was reported to me. I became a member of the L&E 
committee sometime in the 1970s - and a little later 
when I became its chairman the question was no 
longer an issue.
