You misunderstood the position I was referring to Ed.
On the NS side of the screen they thought that north's pass over the
4S bid that hadn't gotten through the screen was the 3rd and final
pass in the auction. And then the "normal" practice IS to remove the
bidding cards before returning the tray through the screen. I know
this practice isn't supported by regulation, but this is how it is
done. The only reason for this is to save time.
Without screens, I completely agree with you. And here in Norway
removing the bidding card is illegal at this time. They shall remain
at the table until the opening lead has been turned face up.
