Thank you  Torsten. Not particularly conclusive but these results 
demonstrate that (in  practice rather than theory) 9 tricks in spades 
is a possibility.
 
[Lamford] Yes, it would appear that the correct adjustment should be to a  
weighted score, 67% of 3S = and 33% of 3S -1 (I think we always reject 3S - 2,  
as the declarer can make 8 tricks on normal play).
