If "..." means an infinite numbers of 9s then, to tell truth,
12.999... = 13.0
because 12 + 9/10 + 99/100 + 999/1000 + 9999/10000 + ... = 13
(a trivail sum of a series).
The decimal notation of real numbers is ambiguous.
