I tend to think of Scottish etymology; "a good blether" springs to mind. 
It's not a Southern (London) usage normally and I wrote it with the 
intention of using dialect; mis-spelling the "blethering" I'd had in mind. 
Well, it's a new collection of epithets to describe Herman, who deserves 
most of them :) cheers john.
