Playing major suit transfers *on* over opposing Dbl or 2C is a very common 
method  where I play (Western US).  My estimate is that about 50% players do 
it and this may be a conservative estimate.  It is also common with online 
pick up partners from anywhere in the world, who are beyond the intermediate 
level.
