Stefanie Rohan:
>>"Unintended" must mean that you did not reach for the bid or
>>ever plan to take it out of the box. Remember the 1997 25B? A
>>bid made with a "stopped brain" is not necessarily a
>>mechanical error.
WBF LC minutes, 30th August 2000 (EBU White Book paraphrase):
[snipped, no longer relevant]
Grattan Endicott:
>+=+ Do not overlook the fact that 'unintended' is listed in
>the Definitions at the front of the laws.
> ~ Grattan ~ +=+
2007 Definitions:
Unintended - involuntary; not under control of the will; not
the intention of the player at the moment of his action.
Richard Hills:
Yes, it is to the credit of the Drafting Sub-Committee that
they fixed many "Beware of the leopard" problems by choosing
to incorporate updated versions of many WBF LC interpretative
minutes into the 2007 Lawbook itself.
Douglas Adams, The Hitch-Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy:
"...You hadn't exactly gone out of your way to call attention
to them had you? I mean like actually telling anyone or
anything."
"But the plans were on display..."
"On display? I eventually had to go down to the cellar to find
them."
"That's the display department."
"With a torch."
"Ah, well the lights had probably gone."
"So had the stairs."
"But look, you found the notice, didn't you?"
"Yes," said Arthur, "yes I did. It was on display in the
bottom of a locked filing cabinet stuck in a disused lavatory
with a sign on the door saying 'Beware of the leopard'."
